December 14, 2009 The Lions continue to creep up on other teams in the standings after earning 3 out of a possible 4 points this past weekend. The Lions who are 4-1-2 in their past 7 games, lost on Friday night 5-4 at home to Jonquiere in a shootout, allowing a 3-0 first period lead slip away. Joseph Manno, the team's leading scorer had quite the night with 4 points, and all three of his goals were scored at different strengths; power play, short handed and even strength. Sunday's contest was on the road in Magog, where they faced off against division rivals Les Cantoniers, who recently eliminated the Lions in the quarter-finals of The Challenge tournament last week in Lasalle. The Lions led 2-1 after the first period, with goals coming from Joseph Manno and Connor Gagnon. Magog continued their comeback in the second pulling even at 2-2, finally taking the lead with under four minutes to play in the third period. Down but not out the line of Patrick Walsh, Joseph Manno and Connor Gagnon came storming back with great puck distribution and a diving goal by Gagnon to tie it up at 3. Overtime did not settle anything, and the Lions were faced with yet another shootout, the third time in the last four games. The Lions who had yet to score a shootout goal this season were 2 for 2 with goals by Anthony Cortese and Ryan Eardley, and at the other end Ryan Kresevic was also 2 for 2 in saves. Joseph Manno earned a point on all 7 goals that were scored by the Lions this weekend with 4 goals and 3 assists earning Offensive Player of the Week honors. Source; Lac St. Louis Lions |
