LIONS EARN 3 OUT OF 4 POINTS ON THE WEEKEND!

December 14, 2009

The Lions continue to creep up on other teams in the standings after earning 3 out of a possible 4 points this past weekend.

The Lions who are 4-1-2 in their past 7 games, lost on Friday night 5-4 at home to Jonquiere in a shootout, allowing a 3-0 first period lead slip away. Joseph Manno, the team's leading scorer had quite the night with 4 points, and all three of his goals were scored at different strengths; power play, short handed and even strength.

Sunday's contest was on the road in Magog, where they faced off against division rivals Les Cantoniers, who recently eliminated the Lions in the quarter-finals of The Challenge tournament last week in Lasalle.

The Lions led 2-1 after the first period, with goals coming from Joseph Manno and Connor Gagnon. Magog continued their comeback in the second pulling even at 2-2, finally taking the lead with under four minutes to play in the third period. Down but not out the line of Patrick Walsh, Joseph Manno and Connor Gagnon came storming back with great puck distribution and a diving goal by Gagnon to tie it up at 3.

Overtime did not settle anything, and the Lions were faced with yet another shootout, the third time in the last four games. The Lions who had yet to score a shootout goal this season were 2 for 2 with goals by Anthony Cortese and Ryan Eardley, and at the other end Ryan Kresevic was also 2 for 2 in saves.

Joseph Manno earned a point on all 7 goals that were scored by the Lions this weekend with 4 goals and 3 assists earning Offensive Player of the Week honors.

LIONS AND FOURNIER HAVE A GREAT WEKEND!

Dec. 7, 2009

Jon Goyens troops charged ahead this weekend and seized the weekend opportunity during the Midget AAA league's annual tournamnet, to show the rest of the league that they are much better than their record indicates.

The Lions reached the quarter-finals of the tournament after defeating second seeded Forrestiers d'Amos only to go down to les Cantonniers de Magog 2-1 on Saturday morning.

Despite an 0-8-1 start to the season, the Lions have since compiled a record of 7-5-2 to begin their ascent back up the league standings.

Dillon Fournier was selected to the Tournament All-Star team after 3 solid performances during the Lions quarter-final run.

Dillon joins a list of players selected to the tournament All-Star team over the past four years, including Louis Leblanc's selection in the 2007 tournament when the Lions edged out the same Magog team 4-3 in the finals to record their first Challenge win in the tournament's young history.

Come cheer on your lions this Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm as they host their annual 'Toy Toss' event to help raise funds for local charities.

You can bring your own stuffed animal or receive one at the door by making a donation, with all proceeds going to benefit a local charity.

When the Lions score their first goal of the game, throw your stuffed animal onto the ice and help support a great cause!
